Pittsburgh Web Design

Ensuring that your website is up to date, both with relevant content and relevant design, is the most important thing to establish credibility with new visitors to your site quickly, encourage conversions, and retain customers. Unfortunately, websites slowly start falling behind with web design best practices, and all of a sudden you may realize that your site looks like it is stuck in 2010. You can be certain that your visitors notice it immediately.

Sometimes, site owners may not even realize that their site is outdated, and only realizes that there is an issue when their traffic stats start lagging, bounce rates start to increase, and online sales or conversions begin to take major dives. In this case, the site owner may try putting more money into their marketing efforts, expanding into new digital marketing channels only to see that impressions rise, but that conversions are still unsatisfactory. Oftentimes when the digital marketing team at On The Map starts discussions with new clients about ways to drive new traffic, and during our analysis will realize that the first issue to be tackled is updating the site in question.

Our Web Design Process

The following is the process that we use with every one of our web design clients. The subject matter changes from case to case and each build is unique, but by following this strict course we can provide each of our web design clients with world-class production and a high-performing website upon launch day. You will come to know each of these steps intimately during our work together, but you can get an idea of what to expect from the information below.

Many amateur web designers will try to run straight past this step so that they can jump right into the design phase, but we know the importance of gathering all of the information necessary to build an effective website that suits our clients’ needs, and reaches their target audience in a way that encourages conversions, user retention, and improved search engine rankings. Without a strong analytical phase, everything else is just guesswork.

We will start by analyzing the past performance of your existing site, pulling metrics from any reporting dashboards that you may have used like Google Analytics, traffic stats from your server or web host, and any other relevant data that can paint a comprehensive picture of your website. In addition, we will take a close look at your competitors and other industry leaders to get a sense of best practices that they are using that we can learn from, as well as your target audience’s online behavior when they are seeking out products and services like yours.

Once we have gathered all of the hard data necessary to get a comprehensive understanding of the current state of your website and online presence, we will be able to set out a strategy for how we can build and launch a website that truly moves the needle for you in a meaningful (and lucrative) way. During our strategy sessions, we will set things like deadlines and deliverables, but the real strategy happens when we start focusing on how we can generate conversions for your site.

Before the first wireframe is even sketched onto a piece of scrap paper, our goal is to have our conversion strategies planned in full. This includes things like identifying all of our target conversions – examples include common goals like emails captured for a mailing list, requests submitted for additional information, purchases from your webshop, or appointments booked – and develop a clear and concise user journey for each target conversion. These journeys will provide your audience with a simple and intuitive pathway from your homepage (or any other page, for that matter) to their final action on your site by using clear calls to action, useful information, and relevant language for your user.

Finally, the design phase can begin. Our designers excel in UI- and UX-centric design, which focuses on creating an intuitive and enjoyable experience for your users while assisting them towards the target conversions that we have built into your journeys. In addition to our strong focus on ease-of-use for your users, we will help your mobile audience (roughly 50% of all web traffic takes place on a mobile device now), which is an important way to ensure that you do not lose 1 out of every 2 visitors simply because of a lack of navigability.

Through this phase we will work with you to ensure that your needs are met, and will iterate to ensure that when launch day comes you will be proud to share your site with existing users, friends, family, and the internet at large.

Finally, launch day has arrived. When it comes time to put your site live onto the internet, we will take care of the administrative details like making sure that your site is indexed by the major search engines, that all administrative tools are connected and working, and things like email and social media accounts are updated to reflect your new site. Once we have your website live on your domain, we will hand you back your login credentials and make sure that you understand how to use your backend.

By this point, we will have discussed the importance of a strong content strategy, so whether you have decided to use OTM for your search engine optimization needs or if you plan to create your own content, you will also know how to keep your web content updated and ensure that your customers can visit your site and get the information that they expect from an expert like you.
